Consultation, Colour & Patch Testing

Maison Élise Hair Atelier — example production policy

A real salon must adapt this page to its products, training, insurer requirements, manufacturer instructions and professional procedures.

Consultation

Before colour or a significant restyle, a stylist may discuss the desired result; current colour and natural base; previous colour, bleach, straightening or chemical services; relevant home treatments; hair condition, texture and density; maintenance expectations; time and budget; and what can reasonably and safely be achieved.

Accurate hair history matters because previous colour or chemical services can affect both process and result.

Colour expectations

Reference photographs help discuss direction, but results vary with starting colour, condition, history, texture and other factors. Material limitations and alternatives should be explained before proceeding.

Corrective colour or major lightening may require more than one appointment. A salon should not promise a result it cannot reasonably guarantee.

Allergy alert / patch testing

The production salon must follow the instructions for the professional products it uses and applicable manufacturer, insurer and professional requirements.

Do not invent a universal "48-hour patch test" rule unless that is genuinely the salon's procedure for the relevant product and service.

Where a pre-service allergy alert or other test is required, explain which services require it, when it must occur, how it is performed, what information is needed and what happens if it is missed or indicates a concern.

Strand tests

A strand test may be recommended where hair history, condition, previous colour or the requested change makes the likely result uncertain. It informs professional judgment but does not make every outcome predictable.

Health or sensitivity information

Ask only for information reasonably needed to provide the service safely. If health or sensitivity information is collected, handle it appropriately and reflect that practice in privacy documentation.

Service changes

If consultation or testing indicates that the requested service is unsuitable, the stylist may recommend a different approach or decline that service, explain why and offer appropriate alternatives.

Maison Élise is fictional. No real consultation, colour service, allergy alert test or strand test is provided through this website.
